WHAT ARE SEQUENTIAL SESSIONS?
Sessions can be combined in parallel or in a sequence. Sequential sessions are very useful to build a user workflow from single smaller steps. The steps can be related to the recording of a single click from the application UI, or any logical group of requests. For instance the request involved in a login could be a single step, and then another step could be open a new record, another one fill up a form, etc...
Sequential sessions make it easier to re-use individual steps and combine them in different workflows. It also makes the analysis of results more powerful as each step can be analyzed separately.
If a variable is created in a session, it is global to all the following sessions. So, for instance if a login returns a session token, this can be passed to all the following sessions.
CREATE A SEQUENTIAL SESSION
In order to create sequential sessions, at least two sessions need to be already present in the account. A sequential session is created by clicking on the SESSION button, located in the navigation bar of the page, and select the Multi Session submenu, as shown in the figure below. The New Multi Session page will open, if this is the first session. If other multi sessions have been created, the Multi Session table will appear. Click the "+" icon to create a New Multi Session.
The first field is the Name this multi-session will be used once saved. The second section shows the possible Session Types. From the Combined Session Type pulldown menu above, choose the Sequential session. Then enter the sessions that should be part of this scenario. The two fields are next to each other. The pull down menu contains all the sessions that can be added to the Multi-session. The second field represents the order in which the session will be executed by the virtual users during the test.
Sessions can be added by clicking the “+” icon to the right of the order field. And they can be removed by clicking the “-” icon to the right of the order field.
Once completed, click the SAVE button.
The new combined session will show up in the Multi Session table. All the sub-sessions that are part of it are listed, together with the order that will be used during the test.
